Disclosure
Two layers: an editorial ranking, and a labelled sponsored directory.
Editorial independence is the single thing that makes a ranking publication useful. This page describes how we are funded, exactly which parts of the site are for sale, which are not, and how we handle the conflicts of interest that arise.
Funding
Gambling Law Index is funded by sponsored services sold to firms working in the gambling-licensing space (see sponsored directory & services). Each service is a flat annual fee. There is no per-rank fee, no per-mention fee, and no sliding scale tied to score. Inclusion in the ranked index is free and cannot be purchased.
The editorial layer — not for sale
- The GLRI score and rank of every firm, set only by the published methodology.
- Which firms are included in the ranked index, decided by editorial review of a free submission.
- The editorial shortlist we send from the shortlist form, and the order of firms in the Jurisdiction Finder.
- Which jurisdictions, topics and firms our articles cover.
The sponsored layer — always labelled
Sponsors can buy the following, and every instance carries the word “Sponsored” where it appears:
- A verified, enhanced profile; firms not in the ranked index appear in a separate “Sponsored directory” block on their jurisdiction page, below the editorial ranking.
- A “Sponsored” card on up to three jurisdiction pages and their related articles, in its own block below the ranking.
- A labelled sponsored line in shortlist emails for their jurisdiction, appended after and separate from the editorial shortlist.
- For a Jurisdiction Sponsor (one per jurisdiction): a “Sponsored by” box on that jurisdiction’s guide, and lead routing only where the operator has ticked the box to share their request with the sponsor.
- Acknowledgement on this page, a quarterly visibility report, and correction submissions reviewed within five working days rather than ten.
What sponsors do not get
- Score adjustment of any kind, or a place in the ranked index.
- Any change to the editorial shortlist or the Jurisdiction Finder order.
- Editorial control over the firm's profile narrative, or over what we write about their jurisdiction.
- Any influence on the methodology or its weights.
- Pre-publication review of their own ranking — sponsors find out about score changes when the public update goes live.
- Operator contact details without the operator’s explicit consent.
Editorial firewall
Sponsorship inquiries are handled by a separate person from the editor. The editor is not informed of which ranked firms are sponsors at the time of scoring. Sponsorship status is reconciled to the public disclosure list on this page after the index is published, not before. A sponsored firm that is also ranked shows the “Sponsored” label on its profile; the label never moves it in the ranking.
Conflicts of interest
Where the editor or any contributor has a personal or commercial relationship with a ranked firm — current or former engagement, family relation, equity stake — that relationship is declared on the firm profile in the "Editorial conflicts" line.
Affiliate links
Outbound links to firm websites are rel="noopener nofollow" by default. We do not maintain
affiliate relationships with any ranked firm and do not earn referral fees from outbound traffic.

Submitting a complaint
If you believe the publication has materially mis-scored a firm or has broken its own editorial rules, write to [email protected] with the subject line "Editorial complaint". Complaints are reviewed by an editor not involved in the contested decision and a written response is provided within fifteen working days.
