National Betting Authority (Cyprus) (NBA)

Definition
The National Betting Authority (Εθνική Αρχή Στοιχημάτων), established in 2012 and governed by the Betting Law of 2019 (L.37(I)/2019), licenses land-based betting (Class A bookmakers, authorised agents and premises) and online betting (Class B). A Class B licence covers electronic betting only and excludes slot machines, online casino games and electronic horse racing, which the Law prohibits outright. Applicants are companies with EUR 500,000 paid-up capital and a EUR 550,000 bank guarantee; the licence fee is EUR 30,000 for one year or EUR 45,000 for two. Licensees pay 15% of net revenue: 10% betting tax to the Republic and a 5% contribution (4% to sport, 1% to the Authority) since the Betting (Amendment) Law N.162(I)/2024. The NBA publishes quarterly market data (Q1 2026: 13 Class B and 6 Class A bookmakers, GGR EUR 45.9 million, 22,415 blocked websites) and the registers of licensees. Land-based casinos answer to the separate Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission.
